Kigali, Rwanda  Bank of Kigali (BK) has officially announced its decision to sponsor gospel artist Israel Mbonyi’s highly anticipated Christmas concert, scheduled to take place on 25 December 2025 at BK Arena. The move highlights the bank’s continued support for Rwanda’s creative industry and reflects growing confidence in Mbonyi’s ability to deliver large-scale, high-impact live performances.

The partnership was confirmed on 18 December 2025 during a press briefing where BK representatives explained the rationale behind supporting one of Rwanda’s most influential gospel musicians. The concert, titled “Icyambu,” will mark Mbonyi’s fourth performance at BK Arena, a venue known for its size and the logistical challenge it poses for artists aiming to fill it.

Speaking to journalists, Thabit Habineza, Bank of Kigali’s Head of Media and Communication, emphasized that the decision to sponsor Mbonyi was driven by both artistic merit and public appeal.

According to Habineza, Bank of Kigali positions itself as a financial institution that represents all segments of Rwandan society, without excluding any particular group or genre.

“When we say ‘Nanjye ni BK’, we mean everyone across all categories,” Habineza explained. “Supporting creativity cannot be selective. Gospel music and worship are an important part of our society, and we cannot promote some forms of art while leaving others behind.”

He noted that Mbonyi’s wide fan base and proven track record made him a natural choice for sponsorship.

Proven Capacity to Deliver Major Concerts

Habineza also pointed to Mbonyi’s earlier achievements as evidence of his capability to handle large audiences and complex productions. One key moment cited was Mbonyi’s first major concert in Rwanda at Kigali Serena Hotel, which was sold out  a milestone that signaled his rise as a serious live performer.

“From his first concert in Rwanda, it was clear that the capacity was there,” Habineza said. “When an artist has that level of support and credibility, and we are a bank for Rwandans, it makes sense to stand with them.”
