When Nigerian superstar Davido delivered one of the most historic concerts Rwanda has ever witnessed, becoming the first Nigerian artist to completely fill BK Arena, Kigali erupted in celebration. Fans hailed the performance as a landmark moment for Rwanda’s entertainment scene and a powerful symbol of the country’s growing status as a regional destination for global music icons.
However, within hours of the celebrations, the narrative shifted dramatically. Reports surfaced claiming that Davido and his entourage had been temporarily prevented from leaving The Pinnacle Kigali, the luxury hotel where he was staying. The story spread rapidly across entertainment platforms, triggering speculation, misinformation, and heated debate about what truly happened behind closed doors.
Early rumors alleged that Davido had been stopped due to unpaid hotel bills, a claim that quickly gained traction on social media. Yet investigations later revealed that this version of events was inaccurate and misleading.
Information confirmed by IGIHE established that the hotel accommodation for Davido and his team had been fully prepaid, making it impossible for the artist to be detained over non-payment of rooms. The Pinnacle Kigali operates under strict policies that require upfront payment for high-profile guests, particularly for premium suites of the kind Davido occupied.
According to a source familiar with the arrangements, Bruce Intore, one of the official event partners, was responsible for securing the hotel accommodation. The agreement stipulated that while accommodation would be covered by the organizers, any additional consumption such as food and beverages would be settled directly by Davido’s team. Hotel staff later confirmed that these costs were paid in full and on time.
With the question of unpaid bills dismissed, attention turned to a more complex issue that unfolded on the morning of December 6, 2025, just hours before a highly anticipated Meet & Greet session.
Hotel staff had spent days preparing for the exclusive event, which was expected to host more than 100 fans who had purchased premium tickets to meet the artist. Prices ranged from 300,000 RWF for individual access to group packages costing 1.1 million RWF and 1.5 million RWF, reflecting the high expectations surrounding Davido’s presence.
Yet, before preparations were finalized, hotel management was informed that Davido and his team had already checked out and were preparing to leave Rwanda. The announcement came as a shock, especially given that the Meet & Greet had not yet taken place and no official cancellation had been communicated to the venue.
Davido’s team reportedly maintained that he had no contractual obligation with the hotel concerning the Meet & Greet event and that any issues related to it should be handled with the concert promoter. From their perspective, the hotel was merely a venue, not a party to the agreement with fans.
As Davido prepared to depart, hotel management requested a routine room inspection, a standard procedure for high-value suites. It was during this inspection that staff discovered significant damage inside the executive suite occupied by the artist.
According to hotel sources, the inspection revealed a burnt carpet and a broken glass fixture, damages collectively assessed at $13,700, equivalent to more than 19 million Rwandan francs. The findings immediately changed the tone of the situation.
When Davido’s entourage was informed of the damages, they reportedly disputed the claim and questioned how responsibility could be assigned. The disagreement escalated into a tense verbal exchange with hotel staff, drawing attention from other guests and employees.
Hotel management stood firm, insisting that damages linked to the suite had to be settled before departure, regardless of who specifically caused them. Eventually, after prolonged discussions, Davido’s team paid the full amount and were cleared to leave.
The executive suite in question is among The Pinnacle Kigali’s most luxurious offerings, with nightly rates exceeding $9,000, while an additional deluxe room provided for the team costs over $3,500 per night. Hotel staff acknowledged that due to the high volume of visitors entering and exiting the suite during Davido’s stay, identifying the exact individual responsible for the damage was impossible.
“What matters in such cases is not who personally caused the damage, but ensuring that damaged property is compensated,” one source explained. “The room was under his booking, and that is how responsibility is determined.”
Beyond the hotel dispute, the incident left many fans frustrated and disappointed. The Meet & Greet event had already been postponed once, originally scheduled for December 4, the day Davido was expected to arrive. Travel changes delayed his arrival until the early hours of December 5, pushing the event forward.
With Davido’s sudden departure on December 6, the Meet & Greet was effectively canceled. Hotel management stated that customers who purchased tickets were entitled to refunds or could choose to apply their payments toward other services at the venue.
Meanwhile, The Pinnacle Kigali is expected to engage in further discussions with Intore Entertainment, the event organizer, to determine responsibility and seek an amicable resolution.
As investigations continue and promoters prepare to issue official statements, the incident has sparked broader conversations about event management standards, artist obligations, and the complexities of hosting global superstars in emerging entertainment markets.
While Davido’s concert will be remembered as a monumental success for Rwanda’s music scene, the unexpected hotel standoff added an unexpected chapter to an otherwise historic weekend one that underscores the importance of clear contracts, transparent communication, and professional coordination in the fast-growing world of African entertainment.
