Rwanda Showcases Coffee, Tea and Handicrafts at SHOM Charity Bazaar in Poland

Rwanda made a powerful and memorable impression at the 2025 SHOM Charity Bazaar in Poland, standing out among dozens of participating countries for its rich culture, premium agricultural products and strong diplomatic presence. The annual charity event, organized by the Spouses of Heads of Missions (SHOM), brought together diplomatic families, international visitors and humanitarian organizations in a celebration of global culture, solidarity and generosity.

This year’s edition attracted exceptional attention, including a special visit by Marta Nawrocka, the wife of Poland’s President Karol Nawrocki. Her presence underscored the significance of the event and highlighted the growing warmth of diplomatic and cultural relations between Rwanda and Poland.

The SHOM Charity Bazaar is widely recognized as a unique platform where countries showcase their cultural identity, traditional products and economic potential while raising funds for humanitarian causes. All proceeds from the event are directed toward charitable organizations operating in Poland and abroad. In 2025, a total of 17 organizations are set to benefit, including a Polish-founded school supporting visually impaired children in Kibeho, Rwanda. This connection symbolized the long-standing cooperation and shared humanitarian values between the two nations.

Rwanda’s stand quickly became one of the most visited and admired sections of the bazaar. Visitors were drawn to the display of high-quality Rwandan coffee, premium tea, and beautifully crafted traditional baskets known as uduseke. The stand also featured handmade artistic products that reflect Rwanda’s creativity, heritage and deep-rooted cultural traditions.

The vibrant colors of the handicrafts, combined with the aroma of Rwanda’s globally acclaimed Arabica coffee and carefully processed tea, created an inviting atmosphere that captivated attendees throughout the day. Many visitors took time to learn about the origins of the products, their production processes and their growing presence in international markets.

Poland’s First Lady, Marta Nawrocka, made a special stop at the Rwandan booth, where she was warmly welcomed by Rwanda’s Ambassador to Poland, Professor Shyaka Anastase, alongside his spouse, Beata Shyaka. During the visit, the ambassador introduced her to Rwanda’s coffee and tea, explaining how the country’s high-altitude geography, sustainable farming practices and skilled farmers contribute to their exceptional quality and even global reputation.

The discussion also highlighted Rwanda’s progress in expanding agricultural exports and positioning itself as a reliable supplier of premium products to international markets. Rwandan handicrafts were also presented as an important driver of community development, women’s empowerment and sustainable tourism, offering economic opportunities to local artisans while preserving cultural heritage.

Beyond products, Rwanda’s participation was enriched by a heart-warming cultural moment that deeply moved visitors. A kindergarten group from the Siemiatycze district, involved in pre-Christmas charity initiatives, visited the Rwandan stand and performed Rwandan Christmas songs in Kinyarwanda while proudly waving Rwandan flags. Their performance brought joy and surprise to attendees, creating a powerful symbol of cultural exchange and friendship.

The children’s gesture demonstrated how educational cooperation and cultural engagement can foster understanding and appreciation across borders. It also reinforced Rwanda’s positive image as a country that values culture, unity and global partnership.

Ambassador Shyaka Anastase expressed sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to Rwanda’s successful participation. He emphasized that international events such as the SHOM Charity Bazaar play a crucial role in promoting Rwanda’s cultural heritage, tourism potential and high-quality exports on the global stage.

He noted that Rwanda’s coffee and tea continue to gain recognition across European markets, driven by consistent quality, ethical production and strong branding. Platforms like SHOM, he explained, help open doors for Rwandan entrepreneurs, exporters and artists by connecting them directly with international consumers and partners.

The ambassador also highlighted the importance of cultural diplomacy, stating that showcasing Rwanda’s traditions, creativity and values strengthens emotional connections with global audiences and enhances the country’s international visibility. He reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to deepening diplomatic, cultural and economic ties with Poland and other friendly nations through continued engagement in such initiatives.

The SHOM Charity Bazaar serves not only as a festive pre-Christmas gathering but also as a meaningful avenue for supporting vulnerable communities and promoting shared humanitarian values. Rwanda’s participation aligned perfectly with the event’s mission, contributing to fundraising efforts while promoting cultural understanding and sustainable development.

As the bazaar came to a close, Rwanda’s stand had successfully left a lasting impression on attendees. Through its products, cultural expressions and warm engagement, Rwanda showcased its creativity, agricultural excellence and welcoming spirit. The event strengthened the country’s image as a nation that blends tradition with innovation and diplomacy with humanity.

Rwanda’s presence at the SHOM Charity Bazaar once again demonstrated how culture, trade and goodwill can work together to build lasting international partnerships and elevate the country’s profile on the global stage.
