Rayon Sports Part Ways With Winger Rivaldo as Squad Reshaping Intensifies

Rayon Sports FC have officially parted ways with winger Harerimana Abdelaziz, widely known as Rivaldo, marking another significant development in the club’s ongoing squad restructuring ahead of the decisive phase of the 2025/26 season.

The decision follows mutual discussions between the player and the club’s management after Rayon Sports expressed interest in sending the winger out on loan. Rivaldo, however, preferred a permanent solution, leading both parties to agree on an amicable separation. The club has since issued him with an official clearance letter, granting him the freedom to seek a new team without restrictions.

Rivaldo joined the Kigali-based giants in July 2025 from Gasogi United, where he had built a reputation as a fast, direct winger capable of stretching defenses with pace and creativity. His arrival at Rayon Sports was seen as part of a broader effort to inject youthful energy and attacking options into the squad. However, despite flashes of promise, his spell at Gikundiro did not fully develop into the consistent impact both the club and player had hoped for.

Sources close to the club indicate that the decision was driven less by disciplinary or personal issues and more by technical considerations as the coaching staff refined its tactical approach. With competition increasing in wide areas and new signings reshaping the team’s structure, opportunities for regular playing time became limited.

Rivaldo was one of five players Rayon Sports entered talks with earlier in the week to assess possible loan moves or contract terminations. These discussions are part of a deliberate squad-balancing strategy aimed at aligning the team with its performance objectives for the remainder of the season.

While Rivaldo’s departure is now confirmed, negotiations are still ongoing with four other players regarding their futures at the club. Goalkeeper Pavelh Ndzila, defender Musore Prince, midfielder Adama Bagayogo, and central midfielder Niyonzima Olivier, popularly known as Seif, remain in discussions with management. All four have been excluded from the club’s competitive plans for the rest of the 2025/26 campaign as Rayon Sports recalibrate their roster.

The club’s decision to reduce squad size follows an active transfer window in which six new players were recruited to strengthen key areas. These additions include experienced Rwandan goalkeeper Kwizera Olivier, midfield reinforcement Faustin Likau Kitoko, Congolese defender Yannick Bangala, Burkinabè left back Ben Aziz Dao, DR Congo centre-back Ramazani Tshimanga Tshilembi, and Beninese forward Bienvenu Joachim Vignino.

This influx of new talent has significantly altered the internal competition within the squad, making it difficult for some players to maintain their places. Club officials have emphasized that the changes are part of a long-term vision rather than short-term reactions.

Rayon Sports’ technical staff believe the current reshaping is necessary to address weaknesses identified during the first half of the season, particularly in defensive organization, squad depth, and game management. The team is determined to finish the campaign strongly and reassert itself among the top contenders in the Rwanda Premier League.

For Rivaldo, the separation represents an opportunity to reset his career and find a club where he can enjoy regular minutes and further develop his potential. At just 24, he remains an attractive option for teams seeking a dynamic winger familiar with the demands of top-flight Rwandan football.

Football analysts note that moves of this nature are increasingly common as clubs across the region adopt more structured recruitment and performance-based squad management. Rather than holding onto surplus players, teams are opting for mutual agreements that benefit both parties.

Rayon Sports have reiterated their commitment to professionalism throughout the process, ensuring that all departing players are treated with respect and clarity. The club’s handling of the situation has been described by observers as calm and transparent, avoiding unnecessary disputes that can disrupt team harmony.

Supporters have expressed mixed reactions to Rivaldo’s exit. Some believe he deserved more time to settle, while others view the decision as a necessary step toward building a more competitive and balanced squad. What remains clear is that the club’s leadership is focused on results and sustainability rather than sentiment.

As the season progresses, attention will now turn to how quickly the new signings adapt and whether the streamlined squad can translate planning into consistent performances on the pitch. Rayon Sports face high expectations, both domestically and from a fan base accustomed to success.

The coming weeks are expected to bring further clarity regarding the futures of the remaining players currently in talks, potentially signaling the final phase of the club’s mid-season restructuring.

For now, Rayon Sports and Rivaldo part ways on professional terms, each looking ahead to new chapters with optimism and renewed focus.READ RELATED POST
