In recent years, sports media has also witnessed a noticeable shift, with more women stepping confidently into a field once dominated by men, adding professionalism, diversity, and renewed audience interest.
In Rwanda, the rise of female sports journalists has not only strengthened sports coverage but also increased engagement among fans, especially within football stadiums and digital platforms. Their presence has helped modernize sports journalism, offering fresh perspectives while maintaining credibility and professionalism. Despite challenges often discussed within the industry, including ethical concerns and unequal opportunities, several young women have managed to stand out through discipline, talent, and consistency.
As 2026 begins, attention is increasingly turning to a group of female sports journalists who are shaping conversations on and off the pitch. Based on years of close observation of Rwanda’s sports media landscape, here are six women who continue to draw attention at football venues and across media platforms, ranked from sixth to first.
6. Usanase Sylivie Sano
Usanase Sylivie Sano entered sports journalism in mid-2023, beginning her career at ISHUSHO TV after completing her internship at Magic FM. Her early exposure to both television and radio allowed her to gain practical experience quickly, laying a solid foundation for her growth in the industry.
After leaving ISHUSHO TV, she transitioned to The Choice Live, a YouTube-based platform, before launching her own independent YouTube channel. Known for her strong passion for APR FC, Sylivie has built a reputation as a focused and disciplined sports journalist. Her ability to stay clear of unnecessary controversies has positioned her as a promising figure who could achieve significant milestones in Rwanda’s sports media within the next few years.
5. Atete Mousa Pouline
Atete Mousa Pouline began her journey in sports journalism toward the end of 2022 at Sana Radio. She later expanded her reach by working simultaneously with Flash FM, demonstrating both commitment and adaptability. Managing roles on two radio platforms has strengthened her confidence and sharpened her on-air skills.
Industry observers consider her one of the most promising female voices in Rwandan sports radio. With consistency and ethical professionalism, Atete is widely expected to become a reference figure in sports journalism over the next five years, particularly in football commentary and analysis.
4. Mugiraneza Josiane “Vida”
Popularly known as Vida, Mugiraneza Josiane entered sports media in mid-2023 through her personal digital platforms under the brand “Vida Sports.” Her independent approach quickly gained attention, allowing her to build a loyal online audience.
In 2024, she secured an opportunity to work with Rwanda Magazine under the mentorship of experienced journalist and photographer Renzaho Christopher. Although her tenure lasted three months, the experience significantly enhanced her professional exposure. Vida later returned to focus on her YouTube channel, Vida Sports TV, which now boasts over 14,000 subscribers.
Her growing involvement in cross-border sports coverage reflects her ambition to expand beyond Rwanda. If she maintains her current discipline and consistency, Vida is likely to become one of the most influential female sports journalists in the region.
3. Ishimwe Muhayimpundu Adelaide “Ida”
Ishimwe Adelaide is among the most sought-after female sports journalists in Rwanda today. Her journey gained public attention after participating in the Miss Rwanda 2022 competition. Although she did not win the crown, the platform opened new professional doors.
During the competition, she publicly expressed her commitment to advocating for women’s sports, particularly women’s football. Shortly afterward, on October 25, 2022, she was officially unveiled as a sports journalist at Radio 10 and TV10.
A devoted Chelsea FC supporter and a loyal fan of Rayon Sports, Ishimwe combines passion with professionalism. Her ability to connect with audiences, both on television and radio, has made her a recognizable and influential figure within Rwanda’s sports media landscape.
2. Umuhoza Cynthia Naissa
Umuhoza Cynthia Naissa currently works with SK FM, owned by Samu Karenzi, but her journey began earlier at Rwanda Broadcasting Agency after completing her university studies at the University of Rwanda, Huye campus. She later joined Radio Rubavu, a community radio station, where she replaced journalist Tuyishime Gribert.
Despite earning a modest salary during her early career, Cynthia’s dedication and professionalism eventually led her to better opportunities. Her move to SK FM marked a significant step forward, reflecting recognition of her growing influence and value in sports broadcasting.
Known for her confidence and strong on-air presence, Cynthia continues to attract attention at football events and radio discussions. Her career progression serves as motivation for many aspiring female journalists.
1. Confidente
Leading the list is Confidente, one of the newest yet most promising female sports journalists in Rwanda. Although relatively new to the field, her rapid growth and strong work ethic have set her apart.
She currently runs a podcast titled Sports Corner Podcast, which has already attracted more than 3,400 subscribers. Her content focuses on in-depth sports discussions, match reviews, and athlete insights, appealing to a growing digital audience.
Confidente represents the future of Rwanda’s sports journalism. With continued focus and resilience, she has the potential to become a dominant voice in the industry, especially within digital sports media.
As women continue to redefine sports journalism in Rwanda, these six journalists reflect a broader transformation within the industry.
